What about the Pros and Cons of Delta-9 THC?

Delta 8 THC or CBD is a wonder drug that has gained immense popularity in recent years. In fact, many people consider it better than marijuana. Its side effects are also much milder than other recreational drugs out there. It acts as a partial opiate with the effect being sedation. As a result, you won’t wake up drowsy and disoriented. However, there are some negative aspects about it that have led to it being banned in some countries.

What is delta 8 thc and what makes it so popular? This Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as Delta-8 THC, is basically a plant cannabis plant extract that contains two major Cannabinoids. It is by no means an “identical” ligonoid like THC and CBD. It is actually a “proprietary” variant of the cannabis plant, which means it may provide its own set of medical benefits, distinct from those of THC and CBD. It does get you high quickly though, so it isn’t for everyone.

On top of this, it provides a number of health benefits common of other Cannabinoids, including relief from inflammation, pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and even depression. However, one of the major benefits it may provide is the fact that it may provide more long term benefits than any other Cannabinoids currently out in the market.

Many believe that Delta-8 thc has powerful neuroprotective properties. When taken, it helps relieve neuropathic pains and also acts as an anti-inflammatory. It is particularly effective in combating neuropathy from chronic pain. The reason behind this is that it contains an abundance of an important fatty acid called acetylcholine. Studies show that delta 8-THC has much greater levels of acetylcholine than the other Cannabinoids; hence, providing a much more potent form of pain relief.

This fatty acid is found in all of the other Cannabinoids found in marijuana. However, researchers have shown that the amount present in delta 8 thc is far greater. The good news is that acetylcholine is a very important neurotransmitter and the body’s natural defensive against infections, mental disorders, pain etc.

So, having more of it may allow you to live longer, perhaps through stopping neuropathy. Other benefits of delta 9-THC are that it is also effective in reducing the severity of withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping the use of certain addictive substances, such as alcohol, heroine and marijuana. And, it has no known side effects.

In addition to helping with chronic pain and reducing anxiety, the most commonly reported benefit by far is the reduction in appetite. While it is unlikely that Delta-8 thc alone can do this, when taken in combination with other ingredients, it certainly makes an enticing case.

A study done at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, co-sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, showed that elderly diabetic rats were given an injection of delta 8 thc; their blood sugar levels were reduced for up to three months. Researchers then gave rats a low calorie diet, thereby tricking them into preferring fat on the obese compared to leaner foods. This suggests that the fatty acids present in cannabis, which may also ease pain and appetite, could have some additional health benefits.

Although scientists are not sure exactly how delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol functions to reduce anxiety and appetite, they are pleased with its performance in many laboratory experiments. It may act as a powerful natural antidepressant or anticonvulsant, or it may be able to alter the brain’s chemistry to produce what is called a “conditioned” high, like those experienced by heroin addicts.

The precise nature and mechanisms by which delta-8 thc alters the brains chemistry are not yet understood. What is clear, however, is that by giving patients lower doses, which are legal and carry no legal risks, doctors can alleviate some of the serious side effects associated with medical marijuana use.

For patients seeking relief from debilitating conditions, especially those suffering from debilitating chronic pain and high stress levels, delta-9 THC may be an alternative to pharmaceutical drugs.
